Internship at BPO

Designing and developing a production ready EV Charging Cables storage solution

Project: Product Design Internship | 2021

Product design
3D Modeling
CAD (SolidWorks)

Main Project

I did my bachelor internship as a product developer at BPO in Delft. BPO is a design agency for technical product developmentand optimization and their focus is plastic products. BPO is well-known for designing products like crates, pallets, garbage containers working together with companies like Craemer GmbH. BPO, for example, also assists in developing Samsonite suitcases and Brabantia bins.

During my internship I conceptualized and developed a solution for organizing storing EV Charging Cables. I did this in the ‘Delft’ way, which aligns more with classical prodcut design. This approach involved methods like brainstorming, scenarios, market analysis, stakeholder analysis, list of requirements and weighted objectives. Then, I modeled the product in a SolidWorks using proper construction techniques like plane referencing, puzzled the injection molding production methods and considered at different materials. Finally, with the FEM internship (strength tester), we tested the strength of the modeled product. Concluding, I designed a production ready product.

This project was quite different from the TU Eindhoven approach the project was generally more concrete with more practical methods to achieve the final design.

Other activities

During this internship I achieved the SolidWorks certificates CSWA–Mechanical Design and CSWPA-SU (Advanced Surfacing).

I also designed a custom wooden bathtub for the CEO (can be found in the 3D modeling page).
