Hi, I am Niels. I am a designer who graduated in Industrial Design at the TU/e. I learned product design during my bachelor, and during my master I specialised in interaction design and digital interfaces. Due to my ability to quickly grasp complex technologies, I bridge the gap between complex technical challenges and user-friendly design. Moreover, I can rapidly develop interactive and functional prototypes, allowing me to effectively test and optimize ideas. I am more of a ‘show’ than ‘tell’ person, so below I would like to present my experience and projects.
In my Final Master Project, I continued developing quizzing tools for primary schools. I designed a fully functional web app where students can answer quiz questions by holding a cardboard cube in front of a camera. The result of this project was graded an 8.5.

This project served as a preparation for my Final Master Project and was a collaboration with CTOUCH. I explored how new interfaces, using technologies such as QR codes and RFID chips, could make quizzing tools for primary schools more accessible and less dependent on phones and laptops.

In this project, I researched how interfaces, such as motion capture, can contribute to social presence.

In this group project, my team and I explored the true value of Augmented Reality in board games. Through iterative prototyping of various prototypes in Unity Engine, we developed an interesting design and research outcome, which we published in a paper.

Since my bachelor’s degree, I have been maintaining and redesigning my portfolio. I designed the entire portfolio myself and did not use any templates.
During my internship at BPO, I learned how to design products suitable for manufacturing. I gained experience in using CAD tools and obtained the SolidWorks CSWA–Mechanical Design and Advanced Surfacing certificates.

In this project, I researched how motion capture can make complex professional 3D pose tools for artists more accessible to non-professional users. This design is currently on display at the Philips Museum as part of the BrAInpower exhibition.

Find at my old graduation portfolio here. It is somewhat longer and addresses my porfolio from a more eductional/scientific perspective and with more detail.
